"His parents’ qualities are on rampant display. It’s rare to the point of outlandish to find so many variables in one actor, including features which ought to be incompatible: vulnerability, a sense of danger, a clear intellect, honesty, courage — and a rather alarming energy. I take no pleasure in feeling humbled, but there’s no getting around it.
He must be stopped.”

I watched the first episode of Don’t Ever Wipe Tears Without Gloves tonight, and having spent the entire episode balancing precariously somewhere between tears of heartbreak and tears of joy, I have to say I’m awaiting the next episode with equal parts glee and angst.

The early on flash-forward scenes of the hospital bedridden protagonists provide a particularly gut-wrenching reminder of the harrowing impact the aids virus had on all too many. I can’t help but look upon their romance as doomed, bittersweet and just, bloody heartbreaking. Rasmus, Benjamin, my boys. Superb supporting characters too. Paul, you especially. I will adore and loathe this show in equal measure.

Absolutely fantastic Swedish drama. Well worth popping the spectacles on.
